THE RIGHT OPERATION FOR THE FEATURE

More than making
a hole.

Start with the finished feature. Drilling creates the hole; threads, precision fits and fastener seats can require additional operations.

01 / DRILL

Through & blind holes

Single holes, repeated patterns and intersecting features in custom components. Define location from the part’s functional datums.

Specify
Diameter, depth, quantity, position and acceptable breakthrough.
02 / THREAD

Drilling & tapping

Create a pilot hole, then cut or form the specified internal thread. Drilling alone does not produce a thread.

Specify
Thread standard, size, pitch, class and full thread depth.
03 / SIZE

Reaming & boring

A secondary sizing operation may be needed for a close-fitting pin, shaft or bearing interface. The route depends on the feature.

Specify
Fit, diameter tolerance, surface finish and inspection needs.
04 / SEAT

Counterbores & countersinks

Provide a recessed fastener seat or conical entry where the assembly requires it. Identify which side of the component is machined.

Specify
Recess diameter and depth, or countersink angle and diameter.
Deep or small-diameter holes?

Send the diameter, depth, material and hole-axis requirements. Tool access, chip evacuation and inspection determine feasibility; no single depth-to-diameter limit covers every part.

CUSTOM COMPONENTS

Holes that connect.
Features that locate.

Specify the assembly function so the manufacturing review can focus on the right surfaces, datums and finishing sequence.

Component examples from the existing CNC drilling page · Geometry shown for reference.

Flanges & mounting plates

Bolt circles and clearance holes: call out the hole pattern, datum references and mating-face requirements.

Housings & fixture blocks

Mounting holes, pin locations and intersecting passages: identify critical fits, burr-sensitive intersections and inspection access.

Fittings & threaded components

Threaded ports and fastening features: define the thread, sealing interface and usable depth separately.

MATERIALS & FINAL CONDITION

CNC metal drilling.
Plastic parts, too.

The existing service covers aluminum, stainless steel, brass, titanium, copper and plastics. Include the exact grade and condition with your enquiry.

Aluminum

Specify alloy and temper. Thin walls, intersecting holes and coating allowance need to be reviewed with the finished part.

Explore materials ↗

Steel & stainless steel

Specify grade and hardness or heat-treatment condition. Deeper holes and small diameters need a material-specific tool and chip-control plan.

Explore materials ↗

Brass, copper & titanium

Identify the exact alloy and application. Burr control, tool access and the required final surface affect the process route.

Engineering plastics

ABS, PC, acrylic and PTFE are listed on the existing service page. Include the polymer grade and critical dimensions for stability and edge-quality review.

Protect the features that matter after finishing.

Deburring, bead blasting, anodizing and powder coating are listed on the current page. Confirm material compatibility, masking and final hole or thread dimensions before ordering.

DRAWING & QUALITY

Define the hole.
Preserve the fit.

Diameter alone is not a complete specification. Separate hole size, location, depth and thread engagement to make the drawing review useful.

DiameterFull-diameterdepthDrill-point allowanceDatum face
BLIND HOLE / SCHEMATIC, NOT TO SCALE

Make the critical details explicit.

  • Location: hole axes, datum references, pattern and positional tolerances.
  • Depth: through or blind, full-diameter depth, drill-point clearance and breakthrough restrictions.
  • Threads: standard, pitch, class and usable engagement; do not equate drill depth with thread depth.
  • Edges & finish: entry chamfer, exit burr acceptance, intersecting-hole deburring and final condition.

Tolerances follow the drawing.

A drilled clearance hole and a precision locating bore have different requirements. Flag the features that control assembly so the quote can include the right sizing operations and inspection scope.

Agree acceptance before production.

Request dimensional reports, material documentation and any thread-gauging requirements with your enquiry. Feasibility depends on geometry, material, tool reach and measurement access.

PRACTICAL ANSWERS

CNC drilling
service FAQ.

Talk to our team ↗

Do you provide CNC drilling and tapping services?

Submit drilled and threaded features together for review. Drilling creates the pilot hole; tapping or another threading operation produces the internal thread. Include the thread standard, size, pitch, class and usable thread depth.

Can drilling, milling and turning be combined on one part?

Yes, send the complete component for a machining-route review. A part may need drilling alongside milled pockets, profiles or turned surfaces. Geometry and datum requirements determine the setup and operation sequence.

What hole tolerances can you achieve?

Requested tolerances are reviewed against the drawing, material, depth and geometry. Close-fitting holes may require reaming or boring after drilling. Specify size and location tolerances separately; a general accuracy figure is not a guarantee for every hole.

Can you drill deep holes or very small holes?

Send the hole diameter, depth, material, straightness and inspection requirements. Tool access, cooling and chip evacuation affect feasibility. Specialized deep-hole or micro-hole requirements need a separate review.

Which metals and plastics can I request?

The current service page lists aluminum, stainless steel, brass, titanium, copper, acrylic, PC, ABS and PTFE. Specify the exact grade and condition; stock availability and the machining route are confirmed with the quote.

What affects CNC drilling cost and lead time?

Material, hole count, diameter and depth, setup access, threads, finishing, quantity and inspection requirements affect the quote. Send the model and dimensioned drawing for a project-specific price and delivery review.

What files should I upload for a drilling quote?

Send a STEP model and a dimensioned PDF. Include material grade and condition, quantity, revision, critical hole and thread details, finish, inspection needs and requested delivery date. An NDA can be arranged before sharing confidential files.
